This process happens automatically and ensures your funds remain available while complying with legal requirements.

No. TradeZero Europe does not use customer money for its own trading activities or for lending to other parties. We also do not engage in proprietary trading, which means we do not trade the markets for our own profit. Your funds are used only to settle transactions you have authorised or to meet obligations under your account agreement.

After completing your onboarding, you will be prompted to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to enhance the security of your TradeZero Europe account. MFA adds an extra verification step when logging in.

You can choose between two MFA options:

TOTP (Authenticator App) – Use a mobile authenticator app to generate secure one-time codes.

SMS (Text Message) – Receive your verification codes via text message.

Under our Customer Account Agreement, and in compliance with MiFID II requirements, TradeZero Europe holds client funds in segregated accounts with approved banks or custodians. These accounts are kept separate from company funds, meaning your money cannot be used for TradeZero’s business activities and is protected in the event of insolvency.

All deposits made into the TradeZero Europe Funding Account are automatically converted into U.S. dollars (USD), regardless of the currency in which you deposit. 

This means that your funds will be held and invested in QMMFs denominated in USD, unless otherwise specified for certain transactions.

Segregated means that your funds are held in special customer accounts, completely separate from TradeZero Europe’s own company money. This protects you because, if anything were to happen to TradeZero Europe, your funds would not be available to our creditors and would be returned to you.

If TradeZero Europe becomes insolvent, segregated client funds — whether in a bank account, money market fund, or held by a Clearing Firm — will be returned to you in accordance with applicable laws. Under the European Investor Compensation Scheme (ICS), securities protection exists up to EUR20,000. In addition, through our U.S. clearing firms, SIPC protection may also apply on a pass-through basis, up to USD500,000 (including a maximum of USD250,000 for cash).

The detail:
Your investments in securities are covered under the Investor Compensation Scheme (ICS), in accordance with Directive 97/9/EC of the European Parliament and Council. The ICS may compensate you, under certain legal conditions, for losses of up to EUR20,000 per person if TradeZero Europe cannot meet its obligations after being declared bankrupt.

In addition, TradeZero Europe maintains clearing accounts with one or more brokerage firms that are members of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC). If one of these SIPC member firms enters liquidation under the Securities Investor Protection Act, TradeZero Europe clients may be eligible for SIPC protection on a pass-through basis. SIPC covers up to USD500,000 per customer, including a maximum of USD250,000 for cash.

A Qualifying Money Market Fund (QMMF) is a regulated investment fund that invests in high-quality, short-term debt instruments issued by governments or other highly rated institutions. Its primary aim is to preserve the value of your money while providing fast access to it when needed.

TradeZero Europe maintains clearing accounts with one or more brokerage firms that are members of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC). If one of these SIPC member firms enters liquidation under the Securities Investor Protection Act, TradeZero Europe clients may be eligible for SIPC protection on a pass-through basis. SIPC covers up to USD500,000 per customer, including a maximum of USD250,000 for cash.

The Dutch Investor Compensation Scheme (Beleggerscompensatiestelsel) protects private investors if something goes seriously wrong with an investment firm - for example, in cases of bankruptcy, fraud, or serious administrative malpractice. The scheme applies to licensed investment firms in the Netherlands, like TradeZero Europe.

If a firm fails to correctly segregate customer assets from its own funds, the scheme guarantees repayment of customer money and investments up to EUR20,000 per person, per firm.

The scheme is managed by De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) and funded by the financial sector through the Stichting Beleggers Compensatiefonds. It is designed primarily for private investors and some small businesses; institutional investors such as banks, insurers, and pension funds are not covered

The TradeZero Europe Funding Account is used solely to facilitate the transfer of funds to our clearing firm for the purchase of financial instruments, and to receive proceeds from the sale of financial instruments or income such as dividends.

It is not a personal bank account and cannot be used for other purposes. 

TradeZero Europe maintains a ledger of your available funds, which you can use for trading through our platform or withdraw at your discretion (subject to any outstanding obligations).

TradeZero Europe holds client money in a segregated client money account with ClearBank Europe N.V., a Dutch banking institution.

This ensures that client funds are held separately from TradeZero Europe’s own funds in accordance with applicable asset segregation rules.

The segregated client money account is also referred to as TradeZero Europe Funding Account.

TradeZero Europe does this to meet Dutch Regulations. Under Dutch regulations, TradeZero Europe may hold client money in a QMMF to safeguard its value and maintain liquidity. These funds aim to preserve your capital while offering quick access to your money when needed.


The QMMFs selected by TradeZero Europe are designed to:


1. Preserve capital: Their main investment objective is to maintain the net asset value (NAV) of your investment, keeping the value of your initial capital plus any gains.
2. Invest in high-quality instruments: They hold only short-term, high-quality money market instruments with maturities of up to 397 days and keep a very short average maturity to reduce risk.
3. Provide liquidity: They allow same-day or next-day settlement so your funds can be accessed quickly when needed.

TradeZero Europe may use funds managed by BlackRock, one of the largest global asset managers.

When you utilize our “Services” which are principally our websites (“Sites”), our account funding and/or trading applications (“Applications”), and account administration we provide to our customers, we record information such as browsing activity and data displayed or clicked on (such as user interface elements, ads, and links) by using such tools as Google Analytics, for example. You may provide us with your personal information (including your national insurance number and other personal identifiers, financial information, government identifiers, and professional or employment data) by filling in forms such as our account application, by contacting us regarding our Services and Applications, or by responding to our marketing activities.

We collect and use your personal information for several important reasons. TradeZero and its affiliates (including TradeZero Canada Securities ULC, TradeZero America Inc., Trade Zero USA Inc., TZ Clear LLC, TradeZero Technology Limited, and TradeZero UK Ltd)are responsible for the personal information that we collect about you. Your personal information will be controlled by the TradeZero entity providing Services to you and, in some instances, your personal information may be controlled by more than one TradeZero entity.

We retain your personal information in an identifiable form in accordance with our internal policies which establish procedures for the retention, handling, and disposition of your personal information. Personal information is retained for a period of 5 years or as long as necessary to meet legal, regulatory, and business requirements or as to preserve in connection with litigation, investigations, or proceedings.

Who We Share Your Personal Information With

We do not disclose any nonpublic personal information about you to anyone, except as permitted by law. In addition, TradeZero does not sell or lease any nonpublic personal information about you to anyone.

Your authorized agents and representatives or others to whom you instruct or authorize us to disclose your information and data;

TradeZero’s lawyers, auditors, accountants and others who provide advice to TradeZero;

TradeZero’s global affiliates who may provide services to you or help TradeZero provide Services to you by, for example, engaging in customer support, sending communications, transaction processing, operational and regulatory functions;

Non-affiliated companies where such disclosure is reasonably intended for the purpose of effecting, managing, or reporting transactions in connection with the provision of Services to you or establishing a relationship with you with a view to such transactions, for example, transaction processing, sending communications or providing clearing or custodial services;
