U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema in Alexandria, Virginia, is holding the hearing to get a broad sense of potential remedies to restore competition in markets for technology that helps website publishers sell ads. 🛢️ Shell profit beats expectations, buybacks kept steady: Shell exceeded analyst expectations on Friday, reporting a 28% drop in first-quarter net profit to $5.58 billion, while holding steady the pace of its share buyback programme despite falling oil prices and lower refining margins. 🚙 Chevron’s stock falls as profit beats views, but revenue falls short: Shares of Chevron were sinking toward a three-year low in early trading Friday, after the oil and gas giant reported quarterly profit that dropped, but beat expectations, while production was flat and revenue fell short of forecasts. The Houston-based company CVX said reasons for the earnings decline included reduced profitability on refined product sales and lower realizations, such as lower oil pricing. Market Watch reports.

Payrolls: 135,000 jobs added, which would be a slowdown from 228,000 in March.

📦 Amazon beats on Q1 earnings, but light Q2 guidance sends stock sliding: Amazon stock fell early Friday after the company beat first-quarter earnings estimates on Thursday but offered lighter-than-anticipated guidance for its Q2 operating income. For the quarter, Amazon saw earnings per share of $1.59 on revenue of $155.7 billion. Wall Street was anticipating EPS of $1.36 and revenue of $155.1 billion, according to Bloomberg consensus estimates. The company reported EPS of $0.98 and revenue of $143.3 billion in Q1 last year.
