Chipmaker Analog Devices Beats Quarterly Targets, Returns To Growth
Analog Devices early Thursday beat analyst estimates for its fiscal second quarter and with guidance for the current period. ADI stock rose in early trading. The chipmaker earned an adjusted $1.85 a share on sales of $2.64 billion in the quarter ended May 3. Analysts polled by FactSet had expected earnings of $1.70 a share on sales of $2.51 billion.
In the year-earlier period, Analog Devices earned an adjusted $1.40 a share on sales of $2.16 billion.With its fiscal Q2 report, Analog Devices returned to growth after seven consecutive quarters of declining sales and earnings. The company is emerging from a cyclical downturn in semiconductor demand in the automotive and industrial sectors. Investors reports.

🚙 China's BYD outsells Tesla in Europe for first time, report says: Chinese automaker BYD sold more electric vehicles in Europe than Tesla for the first time, according to a report by JATO Dynamics, as an aging model lineup and CEO Elon Musk's politics hurt demand for the U.S. EV maker's cars. BYD, which also makes plug-in hybrid vehicles, registered 7,231 battery-powered electric vehicles in Europe in April, while Tesla registered 7,165 units, the market research firm said.
"This is a watershed moment for Europe's car market, particularly when you consider that Tesla has led the European BEV market for years, while BYD only officially began operations beyond Norway and the Netherlands in late 2022," JATO Dynamics' global analyst Felipe Munoz said. 🛜 AT&T agrees to buy Lumen's Mass Markets fiber internet business for $5.75 billion: AT&T agreed to buy Lumen Technologies' Mass Markets fiber internet connectivity business for $5.75 billion in cash, sending shares of the Denver-based firm soaring in premarket trading Thursday. AT&T said acquiring the business would expand its high-speed fiber internet network and give it around 1 million additional fiber customers with a reach of more than 4 million fiber locations across 11 U.S. states.
"We're leading the race to connect more Americans with fiber, the best broadband connectivity technology available," AT&T CEO John Stankey said. Yahoo Finance reports.
🏦 20-year Treasury auction goes badly, yields spike as bonds sell off: A sale of 20-year U.S. government bonds saw weak demand Wednesday, pushing the Treasuries to new lows for the year as yields climbed.
The Treasury Department sold $16 billion of newly issued 20-year bonds at 1 p.m. Eastern. It’s routine for the Treasury Department to borrow to fund the government. This auction, however, saw heightened interest as investors worried that increased uncertainty about the U.S. economic policies would lead to less demand for the Treasuries. Their fears were spot on.
