Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq Futures Hold Steady as Focus Turns to Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole Speech

Stock Market Today

U.S. stock futures were steady in premarket trading on Friday as investors turned their attention to the Federal Reserve’s Jackson Hole Symposium, where Fed Chair Kevin Warsh is scheduled to speak.

Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 traded roughly flat, while Nasdaq-100 futures slipped 0.3% following Thursday’s tech- and earnings-driven stock rally.

Markets are seeking clarity from Warsh on the Fed’s interest-rate strategy after his stance at the latest Fed meeting created uncertainty. His speech, scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. ET, comes as Fed officials remain divided over whether to raise interest rates, while inflation continues to run above the central bank’s target.

The 10- and 30-year Treasury yields were little changed ahead of the Jackson Hole symposium but remain near multiyear highs reached earlier this month, as concerns over inflation and the national debt continue to put upward pressure on yields.

Investors are also digesting Nvidia’s bullish long-term outlook, which helped restore confidence in the artificial intelligence trade and lifted tech stocks on Thursday. Similarly, Salesforce brushed aside concerns about a potential “SaaSpocalypse,” sending its shares to their best day since 2020.

There are no notable earnings reports scheduled for Friday, but the University of Michigan’s consumer sentiment survey will offer further insight into how Americans view current economic conditions. Yahoo Finance reports.
