US stocks drifted lower before the bell on Wednesday, but kept all-time highs within reach as investors weighed President Trump’s signal of confidence that the Iran war will end soon.
Futures on the S&P 500, the Nasdaq 100, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average all hovered just below the flat line, coming off a strong session that left the S&P 500 within striking distance of a fresh record high.
Trump hinted at progress in ending the Iran war in media interviews late Tuesday, saying that peace talks might restart within two days and an extension of the current two-week ceasefire may not be needed.
He told Fox Business that he sees the war as “close to over.” Yahoo Finance reports.
⚖️ SEC eliminates $25,000 pattern day trader rule in retail trading overhaul
The SEC on April 14 approved FINRA's proposal to eliminate the $25,000 minimum equity requirement for pattern day traders.
This removed one of the most persistent barriers to retail market participation.
The decision also removes the "pattern day trader" designation, a classification that flagged any customer who executed four or more day trades within five business days. Yahoo Finance reports.
🧠 The market is bullish again, but it's 'not a close-eyes-and-buy' market
The S&P is knocking on the door of the 7,000 mark.
Banks, the vanguard of corporate earnings, are posting profit beats, and the latest inflation reading from producers came in better than expected.
What's not to like?
Last week, there was plenty, apparently.
The war might be on the verge of another diplomatic breakthrough, with chatter of another round of talks in Islamabad, and investors are grappling with the fallout. Yahoo Finance reports.
🛰️ Amazon's $11.6 billion Globalstar buy is 'strategic positive' for satellite dominance
BNP Paribas analyst Nick Jones views Amazon.com Inc's planned ~$11.6 billion acquisition of Globalstar, Inc as a strategic move that strengthens its satellite ambitions while remaining financially manageable given Amazon's scale.
Jones noted the deal accelerates Amazon Leo's commercialization by adding direct-to-device capabilities and leveraging Globalstar's spectrum and infrastructure.
He added that the Apple Inc partnership, including satellite connectivity for iPhone and Apple Watch, validates demand and positions Amazon more competitively in satellite communications. Benzinga reports.

☀️ Exclusive-China weighs curbs on exports of solar manufacturing equipment to US
Chinese officials have held initial talks with providers of equipment to make solar panels as they consider limiting exports of the most advanced technology to the United States, said five people with knowledge of the consultations.
Such a clampdown would risk investments by U.S. firms and set back a race for space-based computing, as China, estimated to make more than 80% of the world's solar panel components, is also home to the top 10 suppliers of equipment to make solar cells.
No rule has been finalised, and the talks have not advanced to the stage of canvassing formal feedback from an industry grappling with severe overcapacity after years of aggressive expansion, two of the sources said. Yahoo Finance reports.
