President Trump and chipmaker GlobalFoundries (GFS) announced a multifaceted series of deals Wednesday, including a doubling of the already sizable U.S. government stake in the company, as well as plans for two new semiconductor fabrication plants to be operated by the company and the U.S. and Japanese governments.
GlobalFoundries' market capitalization, according to Yahoo Finance data, is about $27.2 billion. Trump said Wednesday that the U.S. government's stake is now "worth over 2 Billion Dollars."
The deal also includes the formation of a new "Special Purpose Vehicle" co-owned by the U.S. and Japanese governments. The new entity will fund the construction of the two fabrication plants and then own the underlying
infrastructure, according to a presentation from GlobalFoundries to its investors.
GlobalFoundries will receive payments for its technological know-how and for operating the facilities, with the company describing itself as "the technology provider and operator" of the plants.
The announcements on Wednesday were the latest twist in the U.S. government's aggressive move into equity stakes in private companies, which now spans 35 companies. Yahoo Finance reports.
☁️ CoreWeave Is Getting Drilled Again The Day After A Panic-Filled Rout
Heavily indebted AI player CoreWeave (CRWV) is having an awful week that keeps getting worse. Shares plunged 6% in premarket trading on Thursday, following a 15% rout on Wednesday.
"In our view, the company's long-term business model remains economically challenged; we maintain our Underperform," Bernstein analyst Madison Rezaei said in a note Thursday.
Two factors collided to spark Wednesday's sell-off. First, CoreWeave's corporate bonds across maturities continued to be dumped amid fears of an AI slowdown and what that would mean for the company's precarious balance sheet. The rise in yields on CoreWeave's bonds even spurred Elon Musk to post "Yikes" on X in response to a post by venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya.
Second, Gartner, in a new report, forecast that by 2030, "cost pressure and a lack of a differentiating business model will force over 80% of neocloud providers to cease independent operations." Yahoo Finance reports.

🛰️ Rocket Lab Stock Plunges Nearly 10% After Another Neutron Launch Setback
Shares of Rocket Lab Corporation (NASDAQ: RKLB) fell nearly 10% in Thursday’s premarket trading, extending losses from Wednesday’s after-hours session after the company officially delayed the first launch of its Neutron rocket until 2027.
The setback followed the discovery of manufacturing defects in a key component of the rocket’s first stage, raising concerns about the timeline for its highly anticipated debut.
CEO Peter Beck said inspections revealed tiny air pockets between layers of carbon fiber in the rocket’s forward propellant dome. These defects could weaken the structure and affect its reliability.
The problem emerged after Rocket Lab changed its manufacturing process and increased the thickness of certain sections of the dome to improve strength. Benzinga reports.

💼 RedCloud Holdings (RCT) Rallies Over 18% After-Hours
RedCloud Holdings plc (NASDAQ: RCT) shares rose 18.40% to $0.13 in after-hours trading on Wednesday after the company disclosed that it had received a Nasdaq delisting determination.
On Wednesday, the United Kingdom-based technology company said Nasdaq’s Listing Qualifications Department had issued a staff delisting determination on Tuesday. The company failed to comply with the listing rule requiring a minimum bid price of $1 per share.
A bid price deficiency arises when the minimum bid price requirement is not met for 30 consecutive business days. RedCloud is not eligible for a second 180-day compliance period. The company said it lacks the stockholders’ equity needed to meet initial listing standards. Benzinga reports.
