Shares of biotechnology company United Therapeutics (NASDAQ: UTHR) jumped 13.6% in the afternoon session after a federal district court ruled that competitor Liquidia Corporation infringed patent claims covering United Therapeutics' inhaled treprostinil treatments.
Liquidia Corporation announced in a company press release that the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware found claims 1 and 14 of U.S. Patent No. 11,826,327 to be valid and infringed by Liquidia's Yutrepia inhalation powder. The court invalidated the other asserted patent claims and ordered both companies, Liquidia and United Therapeutics, to submit proposed legal remedies within one week.
United Therapeutics' shares are not very volatile and have had only five moves greater than 5% over the last year. Moves this large are rare for United Therapeutics and indicate that the news significantly impacted the market's perception of the business.
The previous big move was six days ago, when the stock dropped 4% after Goldman Sachs initiated coverage with a Sell rating. Goldman Sachs analyst Andrea Newkirk began covering the biotechnology company with the negative rating. A Sell rating signals that the analyst expects the stock to perform worse than the broader market or its peers, which can prompt some investors to reduce their positions. New coverage from a major investment bank often draws attention because it adds a fresh perspective on the company's valuation and outlook.
United Therapeutics is up 9.5% since the beginning of the year, and at $543.86 per share, it is trading close to its 52-week high of $596.76 from May 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of United Therapeutics' shares five years ago would now have an investment worth $2,947. Yahoo Finance reports.

💾 Micron Just Blew Wall Street Away Again—Here's What's Next
Micron (MU) blew it out of the water on earnings day late Wednesday.
The main headline is that the memory chip maker beat sales and profit forecasts for the quarter, driven by voracious demand from the AI boom.
Guidance was also strong, except for margin comments on the earnings call, which may be contributing to a muted pre-market reaction.
But keep Micron's quarter in context.
Consider this: Micron added about $43 billion in sales in the most recent quarter compared with the year-ago quarter. That's massive. Operating margins expanded significantly across all business segments.
The market is forward-looking, so the race is on to predict Micron's results over the next 12 months. But don't lose sight of what the company is doing right now. Yahoo Finance reports.
