US stock futures edged lower in premarket trading on Wednesday as rising oil prices and bond yields weighed on markets.
Dow Jones Industrial Average futures fell 0.1%, S&P 500 futures declined 0.2%, and Nasdaq-100 futures slipped 0.5%, extending losses following a negative session on Wall Street.
Stocks got off to an unsteady start in September as escalating tensions with Iran pushed Brent crude oil prices above $95 per barrel. On Tuesday, President Trump threatened to strike Iran “much harder” if the country retaliated against a barrage of US airstrikes.
The escalation has intensified inflation concerns, pushing bond yields higher. On Tuesday, the 10-year Treasury yield rose to 4.79%, while the 30-year Treasury yield climbed to 5.27%.
Trade tensions with Canada also remained in focus. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said the US and Canada could resume trade discussions when the US becomes more serious about negotiations. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, however, downplayed suggestions that the two countries were engaged in a trade war.
On Wednesday, ADP private-sector employment data will provide further clues about the health of the labor market ahead of Friday’s monthly jobs report.
Broadcom and Snowflake are also scheduled to report earnings on Wednesday. Yahoo Finance reports.
