Nvidia will report its fiscal first quarter results after the bell on Wednesday in the most-anticipated earnings announcement of the season.

💶 The trade truces are undoubtedly bullish — but mask unresolved issues: If investors have already glimpsed a preview of how the market can climb out of its funk — a reciprocal tariff pause — the start of the trading week was a reminder of what it will take for Wall Street to hit its stride: more trade deals. But just because the solution seems straightforward doesn’t mean it will be easy to come by.

Stocks rallied on Tuesday after the European Union agreed to fast-track trade talks with Washington, a diplomatic breakthrough that arrived just as tensions were rising. President Trump announced the US would delay the 50% tariffs on the bloc until July 9. Yahoo Finance reports.

🛍️ US consumer confidence rebounds after five straight months of declines amid tariff anxiety: Americans’ views of the economy improved in May after five straight months of declines sent consumer confidence to its lowest level since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, largely driven by anxiety over the impact of President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

The Conference Board said Tuesday that its consumer confidence index rose 12.3 points in May to 98, up from April’s 85.7, its lowest reading since May 2020. AP reports.

🚀 SpaceX woes continue as Starship suffers another setback: It was a crucial moment for Elon Musk’s aerospace company as it has previously experienced several high-profile failures. Once again SpaceX’s Starship has failed to complete a successful test run, with contact lost about 46 minutes into the flight, and the vessel breaking apart over the Indian Ocean upon its re-entry.

This was the Starship’s ninth test flight (27 May), which saw the spaceship take off from the Starbase in Texas. Initially, all went according to plan as the Super Heavy booster performed a full-duration ascent and successfully detached from Starship’s upper stage. As seen in the live feed however, upon re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere, the booster exploded before the planned splashdown. Silicon Republic reports.

🍯 Honeywell expected to add Elliott's Marc Steinberg to board: Honeywell is expected to appoint Marc Steinberg, a partner at activist Elliott Investment Management, to its board later on Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Steinberg's role would be effective at the end of the month, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter. Yahoo Finance reports.

🖥️ Nvidia suppliers ramp up AI server production after technical snag: NVIDIA suppliers, including industry leaders like Foxconn, Inventec, Dell, and Wistron, have overcome technical challenges that previously delayed shipments of Nvidia’s flagship AI data center racks, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday. This development marks a significant stride in the company’s efforts to enhance its global sales initiatives. Yahoo Finance reports.

🛍️ Macy's beats lowly earnings expectations as the retailer faces tariffs and cautious consumers: Macy's continues to face questions about its future as it beats muted first quarter earnings estimates on Wednesday morning.

Revenue fell 5.1% year over year to $4.6 billion, but beat analyst estimates of $4.46 billion. Adjusted earnings per share dropped 40.7% to $0.16, compared to expectation of $0.14. Macy's same-store sales decreased 1.2% year over year, beating estimates of a 3.85% decline. Yahoo Finance reports.

🚙 Elon Musk pledges his own RTO as Tesla sales continue to weaken: Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s latest pledge for his own RTO comes as more negative data emerges. Per the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, Tesla EV registrations (a proxy for sales) in Europe fell a whopping 49% in April compared to a year ago, to 14,228.

Meanwhile, overall EV registrations in the region (which includes the UK and the European Free Trade Association) rose 34.1% in April, with overall registrations down 0.3%. Tesla’s April drop marks its fourth straight down month in Europe, while other reports show EVs from Volkswagen, BMW, and China’s BYD making gains. Yahoo Finance reports.

🏦 Minutes of Fed's May meeting likely to show officials grappling with uncertainty: The U.S. Federal Reserve at its May 6-7 meeting undercut expectations that it would change its policy interest rate anytime soon, and minutes from that session released on Wednesday may show just how firmly policymakers are holding onto their current wait-and-see approach. The minutes will be released at 2 p.m. EDT. Reuters reports.
