Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq futures hit pause ahead of bank earnings, looming tariff ruling

Breaking News

US stock futures were little changed Wednesday ahead of another round of major bank earnings and a potential Supreme Court decision on US tariffs, extending a pullback that dragged the Dow and the S&P 500 off record highs.

Dow futures slipped about 0.2%, while futures tied to the S&P 500 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 were down roughly 0.1% following a losing session.

In a week dominated by big bank earnings, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Citigroup are all set to report results before the market opens Wednesday.

Investors will also parse fresh inflation data with the release of December’s producer price index.

The reports follow an underwhelming earnings release from JPMorgan Chase on Tuesday, which triggered a sell-off in its shares. Yahoo Finance reports.

🤖 Intel’s stock is popping. Here’s how it can become an AI winner and rack up even more gains

While Intel’s stock has booked nice gains over the last year, those largely don’t relate to artificial-intelligence prowess. A KeyBanc analyst thinks that could be changing.

Intel is benefiting more from the AI wave lately, according to KeyBanc’s John Vinh, who noted late Monday that the chip maker is almost sold out of its server central processing units for the year.

He expects this “significant tailwind” to continue as hyperscalers spend ever more on their data-center buildouts. MarketWatch reports.

🛍️ Saks Global files for bankruptcy amid luxury market strains

Saks Global, the parent company of luxury retailer Saks Fifth Avenue, filed for bankruptcy protection late Tuesday.

The company had struggled with a heavy debt load following its purchase of rival Neiman Marcus in 2024.

The company filed for Chapter 11 in US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas.

The store marks the first major retailer bankruptcy of 2026.

In early January, Marc Metrick stepped down as CEO and handed the reins to Richard Baker, the Saks Global executive chairman. Less than two weeks later, though, Baker departed the CEO position. CNN reports.

🪙 Strategy (MSTR) stock climbs in premarket after $1.25 billion bitcoin buy and fresh insider purchase

Strategy Inc shares climbed roughly 2.5% in Wednesday’s premarket session, following the company’s announcement of a sizable bitcoin acquisition and a boost in the cryptocurrency’s value overnight.

The moves matter because Strategy’s stock acts as a high-beta stand-in for bitcoin, frequently swinging more sharply than the cryptocurrency itself as investors balance fresh buying against dilution from equity issuance.

As U.S. cash trading hours near, all eyes are on whether bitcoin’s recent surge can hold and if Strategy’s share-sale pipeline keeps running.

In a Jan. 12 filing, Strategy revealed it acquired 13,627 bitcoin between Jan. 5 and Jan. 11, shelling out roughly $1.247 billion in total. TechStock² reports.

🎨 Adobe stock rattled by Apple’s new Creator Studio bundle as Wall Street turns cautious

Shares of Adobe Inc fell 5.4%, ending Tuesday at $309.93, putting pressure on the Photoshop creator ahead of Wednesday’s U.S. trading session.

Apple’s move to dive deeper into paid creative software, priced well below Adobe’s flagship bundle, triggered the latest buzz, coming as investors grow skeptical about the revenue AI features will actually generate this year.

This matters now because the market is viewing creative software less as a toll road and more as a battleground.

That change has pushed more analysts into the fray, and price targets are sliding in the wrong direction. TechStock² reports.

🛰️ Planet Labs Stock Adds 40% in 1 Month – Analyst Raises Price Target Further

Planet Labs PBC has seen its stock price surge by 40.28% over the past month, fueled by significant contract wins and increasingly positive analyst sentiment.

The upward trajectory reflects growing confidence in the company’s strategic direction and financial performance.

A key catalyst for this growth is the recent multi-year agreement with the Swedish Armed Forces, valued in the low nine-figure range.

This contract provides Sweden with satellites, high-resolution data, and intelligence solutions for peace and security operations. AskTraders MarketScreener reports.
