US stock futures edged higher on Wednesday as Wall Street waited for the latest Federal Reserve minutes to provide hints to future policy amid a shutdown-driven dearth of data.
Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500, and the tech-dominated Nasdaq 100 all moved up roughly 0.2%, on the heels of a losing day for the major gauges.
Meanwhile, gold futures continued their record-breaking rally after topping $4,000 per ounce for the first time on Tuesday. Investors have piled into the haven asset as a "debasement trade" alternative to the dollar.
Caution is seeping into markets as the AI trade loses its fizz, as questions emerge about AI spending and a potential dot-com-style bubble in stocks. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq snapped a seven-day run of gains on Tuesday amid doubts over cloud profit outlook at Oracle.
At the same time, the US government shutdown weighed heavier on spirits as it entered its seventh day, depriving Wall Street and the Federal Reserve of fresh economic data. Yahoo Finance reports.
🤖 xAI to Raise $20 Billion After Nvidia and Others Boost Round
Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence startup xAI is raising more financing than initially planned, tapping backers including Nvidia Corp. to lift its ongoing funding round to $20 billion, according to people with knowledge of the matter.
The financing includes equity and debt in a special purpose vehicle that will buy Nvidia processors and rent them to xAI for use in its Colossus 2 project, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the information is private.

📊 Dell raises growth, boosted by demand for AI
Dell Technologies shares rose nearly 5% in Wall Street pre-market trading on Tuesday, following the announcement of a significant revision of its long-term targets.
During a presentation to analysts, the IT group said it now aims for annual revenue growth of between 7% and 9%, up from a previous estimate range of 3% to 4%.
Dell also anticipates at least a 15% increase in its diluted EPS for the current fiscal year, up from 8% previously. MarketScreener reports.
📱 Oracle slips after doubts about profitability of its AI-related cloud business
Oracle's stock fell nearly 4% on Tuesday after The Information published an article highlighting the low profitability of its cloud division, which is powered by Nvidia chips.
According to internal documents cited by the media outlet, this business generated only a 14% gross margin on $900m in revenue in the quarter ended in August, well below the group's average margin of 70%.
These figures cast a shadow over Oracle's business model, despite its massive investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure. MarketScreener reports.
🚙 Tesla's answer to a murky EV future: Shrinkflation
Tesla has an answer to the end of electric vehicle tax credits and slowing sales: slightly cheaper EVs.
The electric automaker unveiled lower-cost versions of its bestselling SUV and sedan on Tuesday, in an event whose teaser ginned up more excitement than the double feature. Wall Street appeared to like the announcement (+5%) more before people learned what it was (-4%).
Tesla is a (cheaper) car company again. And while more competitive prices may goose vehicle purchases, the late turn toward affordability is a curious choice when Elon Musk's company is supposed to be on the verge of a grand AI transition. Yahoo Finance reports.
