US stock futures rose on Thursday, extending gains after a sharp rally driven by President Trump calling off threatened tariffs and flagging a potential deal on Greenland.
Dow Jones Industrial Average futures climbed roughly 0.4%. S&P 500 futures popped 0.6%, while contracts on the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 advanced 0.9%.
Markets surged during Wednesday’s regular trading session after Trump signaled a pause on planned tariffs targeting Europe and suggested progress toward a diplomatic agreement involving Greenland.
The comments helped soothe investor concerns that had weighed on stocks earlier in the week. Yahoo Finance reports.

Front-month contracts in the US jumped to the highest since 2022 and are on track for a weekly gain of more than 70%, the biggest such move in records going back to 1990.
European futures dipped Thursday after rising around 40% this year. Yahoo Finance reports.

🧪 Moderna stock steadies in premarket after 16% surge on Merck cancer-vaccine data
Moderna shares were flat at $49.81 in premarket trading on Thursday, after the stock jumped 15.8% in the previous session.
The rally followed fresh five-year follow-up data on Moderna’s experimental personalised cancer vaccine used with Merck’s blockbuster immunotherapy Keytruda in high-risk melanoma, the companies said.
The move matters because Moderna is still trying to replace shrinking COVID-19 vaccine revenue with new products.
Investors have been quick to reward any sign its mRNA technology can travel well beyond respiratory shots.
In the update, the companies said the vaccine-Keytruda combination cut the risk of recurrence or death by 49% versus Keytruda alone.
The trial’s main yardstick was “recurrence-free survival” — basically, how long patients stay free of returning cancer. TechStock² reports.
🧠 AMD stock price leaps 8% on KeyBanc call as Feb. 3 earnings near
Shares of Advanced Micro Devices jumped roughly 7.6% Wednesday, closing at $249.80. The sharp gain has put the stock back in focus heading into Thursday’s session.
Why it matters now: the rally comes just before AMD’s upcoming earnings and guidance release.
Investors will be keenly watching for concrete data on demand in data centers and the company’s ability to maintain pricing power.
The focus isn’t only on server processors but also AI chips. Nvidia continues to dominate the high end of AI accelerators—the graphics processors powering large model training and deployment.
AMD, meanwhile, faces pressure to prove it can deliver volume shipments on schedule. TechStock² reports.
🤖 AI power and infrastructure needs boomed in 2025. At Davos, the AI story for 2026 remains the same.
The AI boom triggered a surge in energy demand and infrastructure development throughout 2025.
Global leaders gathered at this week’s World Economic Forum in Davos expect these same themes to remain a major part of the AI story in 2026.
“I said, you can’t create this much energy. We needed more than double the energy currently in the country just to take care of the AI plants, and I said we can’t do that,” President Trump said during his speech in Davos on Wednesday, where he repeatedly emphasized the US commitment to building powerful domestic electricity infrastructure.
