Tech led as US stock futures rose on Tuesday, with a China green-light for Nvidia lifting spirits in the wait for a key consumer inflation print and for big banks to kick off earnings season.
S&P 500 futures moved up 0.3%, while contracts on the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 climbed 0.5%, buoyed by gains for AI chipmaker Nvidia. But Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipped, down roughly 0.2% on the heels of closing gains for the major gauges.
Nvidia said it hopes to resume sales of its key AI chips to China soon, having received assurances from the US government that it will be granted licences.
The dramatic reversal in the Trump administration's earlier stance on export curbs - part of its trade standoff with Beijing -helped lift shares almost 5% in premarket. Yahoo Finance reports.
🤖 Nvidia says it will resume H20 AI chip sales to China ‘soon,’ following U.S. government assurances:
Nvidia said Tuesday that it hopes to resume sales of its H20 general processing units to China, in a major win for the company that has suffered from U.S. export curbs.
The U.S. government in April told Nvidia it would require a license to sell the chips to China, the company said in a filing, effectively halting their sales. The H20 chips had been designed specifically to bypass earlier export controls on Beijing.
“The U.S. government has assured NVIDIA that licenses will be granted, and NVIDIA hopes to start deliveries soon,” the company said in a statement Tuesday.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in recent months has ramped up his lobbying against export controls, arguing that they inhibited American tech leadership. In May, Huang said chip restrictions had already cut Nvidia’s China market share nearly in half. CNBC reports.
